Disability, Depression and Social Support in Older Adults with Osteoarthritis

Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the level of disability, depression and social support and their relationships in older adults with osteoarthritis.

Methods: Data were collected by questionnaires using face-to-face interviews from 95 outpatients selected at a private hospital. The data was analyzed using SPSS-Win 12,0.

Results: The mean scores of disability, social support, and depression were 54.88, 81.32, and 18.45 respectively. Depression was positively related to disability, while negatively correlated with social support.

Conclusion: Nurse who work with older adults are in a unique position to help providing them the support needed to manage their disease.
